Why gutters matter more here than almost anywhere else
Two things make Eastside gutters a first-order problem. The first is rainfall volume spread over months rather than delivered in storms — the system is working continuously from October through May. The second is the tree canopy. Douglas fir needles are small enough to pass a leaf guard, dense enough to mat, and they arrive year-round.

Gutter repair
Sagging runs, pulled hangers, separated joints, leaking end caps, downspouts that have come away from the wall and sections that no longer pitch to the outlet. Most gutter problems are repairable, and repairing them is far cheaper than replacing a run that is fundamentally sound.

Gutter replacement
When a system is undersized, corroded, or has been repaired enough times, replacement is the better value — especially alongside a roof replacement, when the roof edge is already exposed and the fascia can be inspected and repaired properly before the new gutter goes on.

Gutter questions
At least once a year, before the wet season, and twice a year for homes under Douglas fir or cedar. Fir needles are the problem — they are small enough to get past most guards and they mat together into a dense layer that holds water.
They help with leaves and they reduce cleaning frequency, but no guard eliminates maintenance in a fir-needle environment. Needles either pass through the mesh or build up on top of it.
If they are near the end of their life, yes. The roof edge is exposed during a replacement, which is the only convenient time to inspect and repair the fascia properly.
It depends on the roof area draining into each run and the pitch of the roof. Undersized systems are common on homes that have been extended, because the original gutter was never recalculated for the added roof area.

Heavier-gauge seamless aluminum formed on site, hidden hangers at proper spacing rather than the minimum that holds, quality sealant at every end cap and seam, and downspouts sized to the roof area draining into them. A gutter fails at its weakest fastener, so that is where we do not economise.
Installed the way the manufacturer specifies
Material warranties are conditional on installation. Get the fastener pattern, the flashing detail or the ventilation wrong and the coverage behind the product is gone. We install to the published specification, so the warranty you paid for stays intact.
