What Eastside weather actually does to a roof
Ask a roofer who has worked both sides of the mountains and you will hear the same thing. Roofs over here do not die from snow. They die from water that never gets a chance to dry.
Nine months of rain. North-facing slopes that see almost no sun. Douglas fir and cedar shading everything. Moss takes hold in the keyways between shingle courses, the decking stays damp, and a flashing detail somebody rushed during installation quietly rots the sheathing under it for a year or two before anything shows on your ceiling.
So that is what we go looking for. Valley and chimney flashing. Pipe boot seals. Kick-out flashing where the roof meets a wall. Attic ventilation. Gutters that stopped draining two autumns ago. Roofs in this region almost never fail in the middle of the field. They fail at a transition, and they fail quietly.
Why a local roofer matters when your roof is leaking
Most of the companies advertising roofing on the Eastside are not from here. They are in Snohomish, Everett, Tacoma, south Seattle. That drive shapes everything: how fast someone comes to look at your leak, where you land on the schedule, and whether anybody bothers to come back for the one detail they missed.

What a roof replacement here really involves
A proper replacement is not shingles laid over shingles. We tear off to the deck, walk the sheathing, replace anything soft or delaminated, and fix the ventilation before a single new piece of material goes down. Then synthetic underlayment, ice-and-water membrane at the eaves and in the valleys, new flashing, new pipe boots, and a ridge system that lets the attic breathe.
None of that is visible from the street once the job is finished. It is also the part that decides whether your roof reaches the age it was sold to you at. Skipping the underlayment upgrade or reusing tired flashing saves a contractor a few hundred dollars and costs you the last five years of the roof. We quote it built the way it should be built, and the quote lists exactly what that means.
Gutters are not an afterthought here
Gutter cleaning is the single most-mentioned service in our Google reviews. More than any roof service. That is not a coincidence.
